In a bid to prevent attacks on schools in Southern Kaduna, the state government has promised to establish a military strike force in each of the tertiary institutions in the area.
The government announced this when it met with representatives of students of the state-owned university and college of education both in Kafanchan.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai had in November last year ordered the closure of the schools following attacks by suspected armed bandits in the southern part of the state.
The Secretary to the Kaduna State Governemnt, Lawal Balarabe, gave the assurance that the schools will soon be reopened.
The announcement came after the state government lifted a curfew imposed on two local government areas in Southern Kaduna.
The Nigerian Army had in April launched a special operation to rid Southern Kaduna of bandits and others who have terrorised the region for months.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, had said at the launch that the aim of the exercise was to protect residents of the area from attacks and ensure peace.
He said, “We are determined to shoulder the major responsibility of keeping the peace always and it is better to do this job than to leave it until it goes out of hand. God forbid.
“We will continue to coordinate our activities to ensure that we get our communities to understand each other and then we provide the needed security and the right atmosphere for economic and social activities to thrive.”
