A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Friday granted bail to a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, with a bond of N500 million. Mr. Bala is accused of fraudulently receiving over N800 million as gratification while in office as minister.
He is also accused of failing to declare his assets. He was remanded in Kuje Maximum Prison on Wednesday pending the determination of his bail application.
Delivering the ruling, the judge, Abubakar Talba, said Mr. Mohammed should produce two sureties with an equivalent sum as indicated in his bail bond.
The two sureties must have landed properties in Abuja, and must also show evidence of tax payments in the last three years for their properties. The court also ruled that the sureties must comprise one senator and a federal civil servant of directorate cadre.
The case was adjourned till July 4, for trial.
