As part of measures aimed at re-positioning the free and compulsory education policy to ensure that more children are in school, the Akwa Ibom State Government has approved the takeover of seven community schools across the state.
The government says the takeover would take effect from the next academic session which begins next September.
This formed part of the four major decisions taken at Wednesday’s meeting of the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council at the Government House, Uyo.
Briefing journalists after the meeting, the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Charles Udoh, said the decision was aimed at ensuring that more children derive the full benefits of the Free Education Policy of the Udom Emmanuel-led administration in the state.
Other decisions taken at the meeting include the establishment of an insurance scheme for commercial transport operators in the state; approval of Akwa Ibom State Rural Development Plan to fast track rural development; and approval of immediate take off of the Department of Strategy, as a component of the state Ministry of Information.
