The Independent National Electoral Commission in Rivers State has begun the collation of results of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
Top officials of the commission, international observers and party agents, including Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, and the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Nyesom Wike, are currently at INEC’s conference room, where results of the polls are being collated.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gesila Khan, is also present.
While agents of the PDP are sighted inside the hall where the results of the polls are being sorted, the APC, which earlier called for cancellation of the election, has not sent its agents to the exercise.
The INEC secretariat along Aba Road is being guarded by heavily armed security personnel, some mounting on armoured tanks.
The entire area near the commission’s building has been locked down by security operatives.
A top politician, who pleaded not to be named because he has no permission to speak on the matter, said the result would soon be announced by the Vice Chancellor of one of the universities in Delta State.
Meanwhile, irate youth on Sunday torched the INEC office in Emuoha Local Government Area of the state.
The youth besieged the office at the same time APC supporters were protesting and calling for the cancellation of the elections in Port Harcourt.
