Insecurity Thwarts Election In 18 Polling Units In Yobe State

The Resident Electoral Commission (REC) in Yobe State, Mr Habu Zarma, on Monday said elections in 18 polling units in Geidam Local Government could not be held due to security reasons.
Speaking to journalists in Damaturu, the state capital, Mr Zarma revealed that all the electoral materials and INEC personnel deployed to the area were on ground for the exercise but could not go on with the due to security reports of an impending attack.
He further maintained that the tense situation prevented both the INEC personnel and the electorate from coming out to vote.
He however disclosed that the elections delayed in 18 wards in Fika, Potiskum and Yunusari Local Government Areas went on successfully and has been concluded and are currently being compiled.
Mr Zarma also said the collation of results for the presidential election is ongoing, adding that same is going on for the senatorial election.
The Commissioner further maintained that the collation process are progressing at all the centres without any hitch as several electoral officers are on their way to give their various results at the centre.

He commended the politicians, electorates and the security agents for the efforts they put to make the exercise a huge success and hoped similar cooperation will be given in the Governorship and the State Assembly election billed for the April 14.
