As Nigerians anxiously expect the results of Saturday’s presidential elections, President Goodluck Jonathan’ campaign spokesperson, Femi Fani-Kayode, has claimed Mr. Jonathan is already in the lead with at least 2 million votes.
Mr. Fani-Kayode did not provide any evidence to back his claim, just as hid did on Sunday, when he claimed the president had already won in 23 of Nigeria’s 36 states.
The chairman of INEC, Attahiru Jega, had rejected that claim, saying the electoral body was yet to collate results in 23 states.
In his latest claim, Mr. Fani-Kayode said President Jonathan is riding to a clear victory with “two to three millions votes” ahead of his major challenger, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress.
“We have our own Situation Room and we have collated all our figures from the various polling booths, wards, local government areas and states in the Federation,” he said in a statement Monday.
“Despite the propaganda of the opposition, we are confident of victory. They and all other stakeholders can be rest assured that we will accept nothing less than the announcement of an election result that is truthful and that reflects the true will of the Nigerian people.”
Mr. Fani-Kayode said the PDP will “firmly” resist “any attempt to manipulate figures or to rig us out from any quarter”.
“We have our own Situation Room and we have collated all our figures from the various polling booths, wards, local government areas and states in the Federation,” he said in a statement Monday.
