A group under the aegis of Association of Imo State Indigenous Town Unions from Okigwe Zone have called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fix a date for the Okigwe North senatorial rerun election.
The group urged INEC to fix the date without further delay as the 90 days given by the court will soon elapse.
Addressing journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital, the Secretary of the Association, Monday Ikokwu said any further delay in fixing a new date for the rerun election will be an attempt by INEC to disenfranchise the and also prevent them from having a good representation in the National Assembly for the next four years.
They urged INEC and security operatives in the state to show high level of neutrality and remain an unbiased umpire in the election when a date is finally fixed.
They maintained that the group will not give room for any group or persons who are determined to disrupt the peace of Okigwe Zone during the conduct of the election, adding that the group will not accept anything less than a free and fair election in the zone.
