Workers Resume, Lament Increasing Cost Of Goods And Transportation

Workers across Nigeria have resumed after the Easter holiday, with many of them lamenting the increase in the cost of goods and transportation which they attributed to the fuel scarcity.

In Abuja, the nation’s capital city, workers faced serious transportation challenges on Tuesday, with many paying double the price they use to pay to their places of work.

Some workers, who spoke to Channels Television at the Federal Secretariat, urged the government to address the lingering fuel scarcity.

Others also complained of the long hours they had to wait at the bus stop before catching a bus to their offices.

In Imo State in south-west Nigeria, workers were excited to resume, but complained that fuel scarcity had hindered them from moving around the state and beyond.

A visit to the Imo State Secretariat along Port Harcourt Expressway in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, showed that as early as 8.00am local time, workers trooped into their various offices to begin their daily activities.

Some of them, who spoke with Channels Television, however, said the pubic holiday gave them opportunity to spend a good time with their families and friends.

Some complained about the fuel scarcity which they said did not allow them to move freely and travel to their desired destinations.

Federal and state workers in Cross River State also joined their counterparts nationwide to officially resume work after the long Easter break.

While some federal staff said they could not enjoy their break owing to no payment of their salaries before the break, those of the state government at their secretariat were full of gratitude to the Cross River State government for paying them two days before Easter.

They hoped for better working days ahead.

Workers in Rivers State have also resumed.

In the state capital, Port Harcourt, workers were seen in their numbers walking into the state secretariat and other business districts.

Those who spoke to Channels Television said though it was a good time to rest and celebrate with family and friends, it was now time to get busy with the day to day routine of the average worker.
