The Kogi governor has poured encomiums on the state beach soccer team after their impressive show at this year's Keta Cup for emerging first runner-up in Ghana.
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State has praised the Confluence Beach Soccer club after they finished second in the 2016 Keta Beach Soccer Cup in Ghana.
The Nigerian representatives featured against Togo's Team Brick, Ghana's Havedzi Warriors, Sunset Sports, Teshie United alongside former champions Owibeseb in the two-day event.
Confluence reached the semi finals after they finished as runner-up in Group A of the preliminary stage with two draws in 2-2 against Havedzi and 5-5 Teshie at the Aborigines Beach Resort pitch in Ghana.
In the semi-final, the Nigerian side overcame former champions Owibeseb 3-2 but bowed to Ghana's Havedzi Warriors 2-0 in the final of the six-team beach soccer event on Sunday.
It was Dekpey Eugene's brace that handed Havedzi who are reigning Ghana Beach Soccer League winners the coveted trophy that was won by Owibeseb last year.
In his reaction, elated governor Bello said the success of the team is a 'herald of the undying spirit of excellence by the people of Kogi State'.
He assured that his 'administration is prepared to develop beach soccer in the state and turn the team to a world-class outfit'.
He equally pledged to host the gallant beach soccer team at a later date while congratulating the victorious Havedzi Mighty Warriors of Keta, Ghana for their sportsmanship.
