Petroleum Industry Needs More Private Sector Involvement – Pearse

CHANNELS TV
Public Affairs Analyst, Tokunbo Pearse, has advised the Nigerian government to get the private sector more involved in the petroleum industry.
He said this during an interview on Channels Television breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.
Mr Pearse argued that the government is not getting things right in the oil sector compared to what it has achieved in other sectors.
He noted that other countries are developed with or without the help of the government, “You cannot have the government everywhere in a sector,” he said.
He expressed the belief that the government is scared of involving the private sector to interfere in the oil sector as this might make prices skyrocket but noted that the move has become necessary.
According to him, it also appeared the Nigerian government is scared of telling Nigerians the truth that oil price cannot continue to be at the price it is.
He stated that Nigerians need to understand that the price of oil cannot continue to be subsidized and that when it is not subsidized the price will go up before it later moderates.
Mr Pearse also decried the level of corruption that has been reported in the subsidy deals.
