Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, is out of Tuesday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Alexandria.
Super Eagles medical crew confirmed that the goalkeeper has stomach upset which has kept him out of training since Friday’s game in Kaduna.
Reacting, Head Coach Samson Siasia allayed fears that the absence of the goalkeeper would hamper the team’s chances of victory on Tuesday.
Coach Siasia said that one of his reserves goalkeepers, Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa could get the job done in Alexandria.
Nigeria go into the Alexandria game two points behind Egypt and are in dire need of a win to give the Eagles a boost for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations ticket.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria conceded a late goal against the Pharaohs of Egypt to draw their AFCON qualifier 1-1 in Kaduna.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles Captain, John Mikel Obi says the team will have to fight like never before in the second leg match.
Mikel called on his teammates to give more than 100% to ensure Nigeria gets all three points in Alexandria on Tuesday.
Players and officials will leave the country for the game on Monday to Alexandria and train at the match venue in the evening.
The 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) holds in Gabon.
