As part of the activities marking the Easter celebration, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Ebele Obiano, has distributed empowerment items to 70 widows.
The items were given to them after they had completed their training in soap making and confectioneries in the second batch of a training programme.
Presenting the items and seed money for take-off of business to the women on Sunday at the Governor’s Lodge Amawbia, Mrs Obiano urged them to display their entrepreneurial skills and transform themselves to employers of labour through due diligence and determination in committing the skills they have learnt to good use.
The widows are among the 2,000 women that have been empowered within two years of the commencement of the programme.
The project, which is designed to touch many lives especially that of the women in the area of skill acquisition to enable them support their families, has well over 2,000 beneficiaries of which the 70 widows are among.
The Desk Officer of the CAFE training programme and the former House Committee Chairman on Women Affairs in Anambra State House of Assembly, maintained that the programme was in tandem with the present reality of economic diversification.
The CAFE project has trained women in various vocational skills; tailoring, hairdressing, cosmetics and beauty therapy, computer and Information Communication and Technology skills among others.
