The Oyo State police command has reiterated its readiness for Saturday’s gubernatorial and State House of Assembly elections. ‎
Speaking with PREMIUM TIMES, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adekunle Ajisebutu, enjoined the people of the state to abide by the restriction of movement order, which requires residents to move around only between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturday.‎
He said the state command has deployed over 21,000 officers in different parts of the state. He also warned troublemakers to stay clear of the electoral process or face the wrath of the police.
“We are fully prepared and we have deployed 21,000 officers including additional special forces, officers and men from the Federal Headquarters around Oyo state,”Mr. Ajisebutu said.
Also, the state Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Katsina, in a statement warned politicians who plan to cause violence and those who come to the polling booth with escort. He said they will be arrested.
“Intelligence at the disposal of the command also indicates that some disgruntled politicians have decided to hold nocturnal meetings in their premises and houses with criminal motive to cause breach of peace should they lose the election. The police warn that if the intelligence appears credible, we will not hesitate to bring them before the law.
“It is further warned that any politician found using police escort on the Election Day will be arrested and such escort withdrawn. We enjoin the people of Oyo State to come out en mass to exercise their franchise.
“The restriction of vehicular movement is ordered by the Inspector General of Police. Members of the public are warned to ensure strict compliance with this directive in their own interest as the CP would not hesitate to prosecute any violator of this order,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ibadan, the Oyo State capital remains peaceful as people continue to go about their businesses.
