The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Gombe State, Yahaya Inuwa, has conceded defeat to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, candidate and incumbent governor, Ibrahim Dankwambo.
Mr. Dankwambo was declared winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission Sunday after he polled 285,369 to defeat Mr. Inuwa, who polled, 205,132
votes.
Speaking shortly after the result announcement, Mr. Inuwa said, “The election has been won and lost; won because I have the belief that the people exercised their rights and voted. Whatever happened at least there was a result which came through INEC, so we have to
accept it and we wish the person that was announced winner success.”
When the result of the election was announced earlier at the sports auditorium in Gombe, the APC agent, Kabiru Kukandaka, refused to sign the result sheet. He said a lot has happened while the election held, and the party would look at all options available to it.
However, Mr. Inuwa, who conceded defeat, added that he was a party man and would abide by whatever the party decides.
He also called on his supporters to be law abiding and go through the right process of seeking redress.
“People should be law abiding and go through the right process of seeking justice,” he said. “I don’t encourage anybody to go and do anything otherwise contrary to what is provided in the law.”
On his part, Governor Dankwambo, who also spoke to reporters at the Government House in Gombe after the result announcement, thanked the people of the state for re-electing him.
He promised to continue where he stopped.
“We will continue to ensure that we live in peace and we will continue to ensure that the dividend of democracy reaches to the down trodden people of Gombe state,” he said.
“I assured them once again that we will do everything possible to ensure that we develop, enhance and create wealth for the ordinary person in Gombe state. I assured that we
will not fail them.”
