The candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa state, Jibrilla Bindow, has been declared winner of the 2015 governorship election in the state.
Mr. Bindow scored 362,329 votes to defeat the Social Democratic Party’s Markus Gundiri, who polled 181,806 votes.
Declaring the results at the collation centre at General Murtala Memorial College, Yola, the state Returning Officer, Geoffrey Okogbaa, said Mr. Bindow got the highest votes and scored a quarter of the votes in two-third of the local governments in the state.
Mr. Okugbaa, vice chancellor, Federal University of Wukari, therefore, declared the APC candidate winner of the election.
“Senator Jibrilla Mohammed Bindow having satisfied the requirement of law and scored the highest numbers of votes is hereby declared the winner of the April 11 elections in Adamawa state,” the returning officer said.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Nuhu Ribadu, scored 98,917 votes to emerge third while the flag-bearer of the Peoples Democratic Movement, Ahmed Modibbo, scored 32,985 votes to come fourth.
The Returning Officer, Mr. Okugbaa, said the total numbers of votes cast during the election was 706,092, adding that 684,050 of them were valid and 22,042 were rejected .
Speaking on the election, the secretary of the APC in the state, Abdullahi Bakari, said the credit for the success of the poll goes to the Adamawa electorates who voted the party’s candidate to govern the state.
