Channels National Kids Cup: “We Will Retain Trophy”, Toyibat Boasts

Defending Champions of the Channels National Kids Cup, Toyibat Nursery and Primary School, have boasted that they have to quality to retain the trophy they won last year.
In the all Lagos final in 2014, spectators were thrilled with entertaining football and a marathon penalty shoot-out as Toyibat defeated Ebute-Metta Primary School 8-7 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
At the 6th Edition, the Gbagada based school were known as the comeback kings. At the Lagos preliminaries, in the game against Goodness & Mercy, with five minutes to regulation time, they equalised 2-2, their opponent lost a penalty and they went on to win 3-2.
In the quarter-final game against Research Model Primary School, they came back from two goals down and went on to win on penalties.
In the semi-final game against Ibadan Municipal Government School, from Oyo State, Toyibat stunned spectators by coming back from two goals down to win 3-2 with Toyeeb Lasisi winning the Man of the Match award after scoring a hat-trick.
The defending champions are already preparing for the upcoming competition and the players believe they have what it takes to win the trophy again. Samson Adeyemi was a member of the winning team and he is confident of victory this year.
“We are the best. Our school loves football and we always practice. We won it last year by beating the other boys, we want to do it again,” Samson boasted.
Coach Godwin Peters does not share the same level of optimism with his players and that is because he understands this year’s edition will be more competitive.
“I do believe that lightening can strike twice. I believe we can put up a good show this year, by God’s grace,” Peters concluded.

The Lagos preliminaries which is scheduled for March 17 till 20 will feature primary schools that have been approved for the competition which will be played on knock-out basis.
