Match summary
Everton were the better team in terms of creating quality chances but some poor finishing let them down. Joshua King then handed the Cherries the lead in the second half.
However, a late brace from Oumar Niasse saw the Toffees pick up the three points as they recorded their first victory after three defeats in a row in the league.
Match report
Bournemouth started well though the first chance fell to young striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, when he got on the end of Leighton Baines' seventh minute cross but headed wide.
It was a first half of very little goalmouth action with the Cherries controlling possession for the most part at Goodison Park. Controversy arose just before the break when a bloodied Wayne Rooney claimed he had been elbowed by Simon Francis, but no red card was issued.
In the 41st minute Rooney was involved in creating the best chance of the first stanza, when he broke into the box from a superb Idrissa Gueye pass. The 31 year old's cut back then found Gylfi Sigurdsson who stumbled and the ball narrowly rolled past the post.
After the interval, Bournemouth made Everton pay for the miss when Charlie Daniels fed in Joshua King and he drifted past two defenders before slamming in a stunning effort beyond goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in the 49th minute.
Two minutes later the home side were let off the hook as King played in Jermain Defoe, but he hit the ball straight at Pickford in a one-on-one situation. Everton pressed for an equaliser with Sigurdsson heading wide, and a Calvert-Lewin penalty appeal turned down.
Yet, the pressure paid dividends in the 77th minute as Oumar Niasse popped up to finish expertly beyond Asmir Begovic, from Tom Davies accurate through ball. In the 82nd minute Goodison Park erupted as the same player was sharp enough to convert from close range after more good work from Davies.
Calvert-Lewin then missed a glorious opportunity in the closing stages, however, Ronald Koeman's men were able to hang on for a morale-boosting win.
