Milik goes under the knife again

The Poland international sat out four months of his debut campaign in Naples after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee while on international duty.

Milik returned to action in February this year and managed 23 appearances in all competitions for the Azzurri, scoring eight goals, following his switch from Ajax in 2016.

But the 23-year-old striker was forced off in the closing stages of the clash at Stadio Paolo Mazza over the weekend, having only been brought on as a 70th-minute substitute.

Milik required surgery on his left knee this time and is expected to be ruled out for another four months.

A statement from the club read: "Professor [Pier Paolo] Mariani completed at the Villa Stuart [an operation on] the right knee of Arek Milik.

"It was not an isolated but complex injury and the intervention was perfectly successful. The knee has been reinforced and the striker will return in a similar time to that of the previous injury."
