The Flying Antelopes maintained their title charge with victory at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri
Heartland FC 1-2 Enugu Rangers
Enugu Rangers defeated Heartland FC 2-1 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday. Chisom Egbuchulam delivered the match winner for the Flying Antelopes after 60 minutes despite Julius Ubido giving the hosts an early lead after 12th minute.
Rangers weren't deterred and they attacked with confidence. They were back on level terms when Chinedu Udeagha poked home from Osas Okoro's free-kick. Egbuchulam silenced the home fans with the winning goal from the penalty spot to put his team back in the hunt for the title.
El-Kanemi Warriors 2-0 Warri Wolves
A goal in each half helped El-Kanemi Warriors to beat Warri Wolves 2-0 in Maiduguri and secured their eight Nigeria Professional Football League victory in 19 matches. Hussaini Bata opened the scoring, taking control of a great pass from Chinedu Ohanachom before finding the back of the net on 31 minutes. Samuel Matthias netted a superb free kick thirty minutes after the interval to put the game beyond Warri Wolves, who have now conceded 15 goals in 18 matches.
Niger Tornadoes 2-1 FC Ifeanyi Ubah
Niger Tornadoes claimed their eight victory of the season after beating FC Ifeanyi Ubah 2-1 at the Confluence Stadium. Lukman Mohammed and Ilyasu Isiaku both pushed hard in the opening minutes as the home side looked for an early goal, while man of the match Kunle Isa saw his strike blocked by Wale Doyeni.
Alberico Da Silva had the first chance for the visitors, but he smashed his finish both high and wide from outside the box.
The hosts managed to break the deadlock eight minutes into the second half, with the impressive Isa bursting into the box before setting up Bashar Usman who delivered with a low, powerful strike. Mohammed had a couple of chances to extend Tornadoes' lead, but his first shot drifted narrowly wide, while a later effort was blocked by Wilson Elu.
In the 74th minute, FC Ifeanyi Ubah found themselves back on level terms as Da Silva was picked out by Baah Kojo's free-kick. The Brazilian headed the ball beyond Mustapha Salihu. Substitute Tasiu Lawal scored in the 82nd minute to give the hosts the maximum points.
Rivers United 1-0 Lobi Stars
A superb second half strike by Christian Weli was the flavour that Rivers United needed to edge Lobi Stars at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium. The win ensured that the Pride of Rivers still maintains second spot in the top flight table. They have 34 points from 19 matches, while Lobi Stars have 28 points.
Kano Pillars 1-0 Plateau United
Ifeanyi Matthew's second-half penalty strike was enough to guide Kano Pillars to a 1-0 victory over Plateau United. The teams exchanged long-range efforts in the opening stages of the game as Matthew sent his left-footed strike narrowly over the bar, while Reuben Bala saw his shot well saved by the goalkeeper. Pillars' pressure in the second half paid off when Ifeanyi Matthew fired the home side ahead from the penalty spot. The result lifts Pillars above Enyimba in third place in the table.
Shooting Stars 3-0 Akwa United
Shooting Stars produced a fine display at home to cage Akwa United 3-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium. It was a scrappy start to the game with both sides giving away a number of fouls, but Shooting Stars settled after the opening fifteen minutes and took the lead.
Ibrahim Ajani found Sunday Adetunji who nodded the ball home. Ajani doubled the advantage late in the first half, finishing off a sweet team move. The visitors responded well after the break and had a couple of half-chances, but the game finished as a contest on the hour mark as Adetunji grabbed a brace for himself.
Sunshine Stars 1-1 Abia Warriors
Sunshine Stars and Abia Warriors cancelled each other out at the end of proceedings at the Akure Township Stadium following a 1-1 draw.
The Owena Waves dominated the first stanza without claiming the reward that their dominance merited. Solomon Ogbeide's men took the lead in the 57th minute when Razaq Adegbite nodded past goalkeeper Chinedu Anozie.
The away side started to develop a foothold and were back in the game when Emmanuel Olowo netted the equalizer for them. Despite the late forays by the hosts, the Umuahia based team showed maturity and held on to the point.
Nasarawa United 2-1 Enyimba FC
It was another heartbreak for Enyimba FC in the space of four days as they lost 2-1 to Nasarawa United at the Aper Aku Stadium. Enyimba were humbled by Wikki Tourists in a rescheduled match at midweek and this was followed up with a loss in the city of Makurdi.
The visitors went in front thanks to Ifeanyi George's goal in the 8th minute of action. In the 23rd minute, It was all square as Esosa Igbinoba kept his cool to net from the penalty spot. Reliable point man Abdulrahman Bashir haunted his former team with the match winner two minutes before the half hour.
