The Napoli coach is perplexed by criticism directed at the Argentine star and is sure many top clubs will be looking to sign him as he continues to shine in Serie A.
Maurizio Sarri is sure Napoli will receive many offers for star striker Gonzalo Higuain at the end of the season.
Higuain tops the Serie A goalscoring charts this season with 24 goals, but has failed to net in his past three games, leading to some criticism. The Argentine has been linked to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea and Arsenal in recent months and Sarri said he expects plenty of interest in Higuain come the end of the campaign.
"I do not read the rumours and I do not know anything, but I think there will be even more offers than from those clubs," Sarri told reporters ahead of Thursday's Europa League match against Villarreal.. “At this point, I have left the choice completely up to Higuain whether or not he plays against Villarreal. It will be up to him to decide.
“Maybe he’ll want to respond to these rumours and answer his critics, but I don’t understand how anyone can find fault in a player who has scored 26 goals this season and shown he is a genuine star. “In the end, its just building up a story that does not need to exist.
“We want to reach the final this year. And in front of our fans, we know we can do well. We’ve not won for three games now, so tomorrow is an opportunity for us to do that.”
