FG Says Amnesty Programme Is Sustaining Peace In Niger Delta

CHANNELS TV
The Federal government says the disarmament and demobilisation of former agitators in the Niger Delta is helping to sustain the peace in the region.
The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta, General Paul Boroh (Rtd), made the observation on Thursday.
Speaking in Abuja at a forum on the way forward in sustaining the peace in the Niger Delta region, General Boroh noted that the amnesty programme was upholding peace despite the economic challenges being faced by Nigeria as a nation.
Boroh, who is also the Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, said that more former agitators were seeking to be included in the programme.
However, he said that the programme cannot be an elastic one due to the finances of the Federal government.
The President’s aide appealed to all stakeholders to take ownership of the amnesty programme by supporting the peace initiative of the government.
