Students of Osun State College of Education, Ila Orangun and the host community have staged a protest on alleged plan to merge the institution and change its status to a Primary and Technical Education ‎centre.
The protesters stormed the Palace of the Orangun of Ila, Oba Wahab Oyedotun, Bibire 1 in Osun State, South-west Nigeria.
The students accused the Osun State government of planning to merge the Ila Orangun college with Osun State College of Education, Ilesa thereby, reducing the staff strength.
Addressing reporters and residents of the community, Secretary of Ila Action Council, Prince Yemi Adeoye, appealed to the government to rescind its decision.

The college currently has a population of over 15 thousand students and runs 28 academic programmes, including 15 other academic degree programmes in affiliation with University of Uyo and Ekiti State University.
Osun State also has two State-owned polytechnics in Iree and Esa-Oke as well as two Colleges of Education in Ila Orangun ‎and Ilesa.
