Reps React To Distribution Of Committee Chairmanship

Channels Tv
Reactions have continued to trail the composition of the standing committees in the House of Representatives.
Some reps have alleged that the Speaker appears to have favoured lawmakers from the opposition party – the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the expense of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A breakdown of the chairmanship slots shows that the majority party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) got 48 slots, while opposition parties will chair 47 committees.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has 45 slots, while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) are to chair one committee each.
Some lawmakers, who declined to speak on camera have insisted that the distribution favours the Peoples Democratic Party.
This position has, however, been dismissed as other lawmakers say the selection of chairmen of the 96 standing committees followed due process and was in line with the principles of federal character.
The Spokesman of the House of Representatives said that the composition of the committees was a collective decision of the House leadership which was taken in the best interest of the members.
He said that the leadership looks forward to a united 8th House of Representatives.
