Kwara Governor Swears In 12 Political Appointees

The Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, has sworn in 12 political appointees, charging them to add value to governance or prepare to be dropped.
Governor Ahmed gave the charge at the Government House, Ilorin, during the swearing-in of the Secretary to the Kwara State Government, Isiaka Gold; Head of Service, Hajia Zahra Omar, Chief of Staff, Yusuf Abdulwahab and nine special advisers.
According to the Governor, the appointments were made in an atmosphere of economic challenge with great and increasing expectations from citizens of the government for good governance and economic well-being.
He stressed the need for citizens need to be empowered and elevated within the shortest possible time.
The Governor noted that given the prevailing realities, governance could no longer be business as usual just as success had become mandatory and non-performance was no longer an option.
He said that the political appointees must apply best practices in all aspects of governance and make prudence, accountability, transparency as well as fear of God their watchwords.
On the state civil service, the Governor directed the new Head of Service to sensitize civil servants on the ethics of service and excellence in performance and also implored her to ensure their effective deployment and positive engagement to this administration.
He promised that delay in payment of workers’ salaries would soon become a thing of the past with increased Internally Generated Revenue expected to be achieved with the establishment of the Kwara State Internal Revenue Service.
Responding on behalf of the newly appointed, the Secretary to the State Government, Isiaka Gold, promised the loyalty of the appointees in ensuring the success of the government, adding that they would not disappoint.
The ceremony at the council chamber of the Government House was attended by family members, friends and well-wishers of the political appointees who came to rejoice with them.
