A machete-wielding man on Friday attacked a Lagos bound passenger train at Agege Station, shattering the side windows of the locomotive engine and wounding several passengers.
The young man, aided by his gang members, attacked the train immediately it stopped at Agege.
The attack caused a few minutes pandemonium at the station as passengers and passers-by scampered for safety.
The target of the man, said to be on a reprisal mission, was reportedly the engine driver who escaped the attack. However, the side windows of the train’s engine was shattered.
The attack caused the driver to move the train forward to Ikeja Station.
As the train moved, the young man attacked passengers hanging on the train’s engine and others hanging at the entrance of the coaches.
The train driver was later forced to stop and go back to Agege Station in order to get the attackers arrested.
At that point, the attackers had disappeared into the Agege market. One of them was later arrested and brought in handcuff to the Railway Police Command at Ebute Meta.
Efforts to reach the Commissioner of Police in charge of the command, failed as his aides said that he had yet to be fully briefed about the incident.
The officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, NRC, also declined comment on the issue, saying the media would later be briefed after investigation had been concluded.
