Kebbi Assembly Speaker, other principal officers resign

premiumtimesng.com
The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Aminu Jega, his deputy, and other principal officers of the Assembly have resigned from their position.
Mr. Jega, who announced the decision late Thursday, said their action was as a result of unfair treatment meted out to the members by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
There have been reports in recent week that the leadership of the House as well as the state deputy governor, Ibrahim Aliyu, will defect to the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC.
The deputy governor, Wednesday, denied any plan to defect from the PDP.
A source in Kebbi APC, who refused to be named because he was not permitted to speak to the media, however, confirmed to PREMIUM TIMES that the speaker and 16 other members in the house have approached the APC and are set to defect from the PDP.
“As we speak all arrangements are concluded to receive them either over the weekend, or at most by Monday,” our source said.
