The Frenchman has fallen down the pecking order at the Magpies, failing to make an appearance in 2014-15, and has now agreed to join the Serie A side on a short-term deal
The centre-back fell down the pecking order under Alan Pardew last season and is yet to make an appearance for the club in the 2014-15 season.
Speaking to reporters ahead of a medical on deadline day, Yanga-Mbiwa expressed his excitement at joining the Serie A side, saying: “I am very happy to be at Roma and couldn’t wait to get here. I have already spoken to Rudi Garcia on the phone over the last few days.
“I am ready, Forza Roma!”
The Magpies have already bolstered their defence with the signing of Daryl Janmaat this summer and Pardew has favoured Mike Williamson and Fabricio Coloccini this season, with Yanga-Mbiwa deemed surplus to requirements.
The 25-year-old will remain in Italy for the entirety of their Serie A campaign and it is understood that Roma will pay a portion of his wages while he is at Stadio Olimpico.
Should Yanga-Mbiwa complete his move before the transfer deadline, he could make his debut in Roma's clash with Empoli after the international break.
