Abia State Commissioner for Information, Eze Chikamnayo, says the succession process would not be a difficult task for Abia State Governor, Theodore Orji, because of his quality works in Abia State which has earned him the trust of the people.
Mr Chikamnayo was the guest of Politics Today on Sunday, September 28, where he disclosed that Governor Orji has, through hardwork, earned the support of the party in Abia State as well as of the citizens who have grown to trust him as a leader committed to building a good future for the state.
He stated that Governor Orji has taken Abia State to a level it never got to during previous administrations, contrary to what has been said about him by his political foes.
Chikamnayo said that he would be glad if the Governor, after his tenure, decides to run for a legislative position to represent the people of the state at the federal level, as he has grown to become a leader of the entire Ndi Igbo and not just one for Abia State alone and thus would be needed to further develop the entire region with his experience.
He emphasized the decision of the PDP in the state to zone the governorship of the state to the southern part as one based on wide consultation as the governor is a man of the people who would not decide on such matters independently.
While Chikamnayo admitted that not all citizens would be in support of the governor, he presented a document which, according to him, is a catalogue of all verifiable projects executed by the State Governor, Theodore Orji, in the state.
He also referred to a newspaper campaign sponsored by the State Government titled ‘Pictures Don’t Lie” which did a comparative analysis of the administration of Governor Orji and that of his predecessor, Orji Uzor Kalu, whom he accused of distorting the facts during an earlier interview on Politics Today.
He accused the former governor of making false accusations based on personal petty issues he has had with the current Governor and that it became important to embark on the media campaign in order to ensure that the false stories being told by the former governor are not allowed to grow into what Nigerians would see as facts.
Mr Chikamnayo also debunked allegations that the State Government was owing the civil servants in the state, explaining the structure of the state agencies and how some of the parastatals were responsible for the challenges their staff might be facing.
Chikamnayo also commented on the environmental challenges in Abia State’s commercial city, Aba, which has been a source of criticism and sometimes embarrassment for the government.
He presented several pictures of renovated roads which he referred to as Governor Orji’s initiative to transform the city of Aba.
He added that the State Governor would not have had to spend so much resources on transforming Aba if only previous administration like that of Orji Kalu had done what was expected.
He challenged the former Governor to a debate on his works and Theodore Orji’s works as Governor of Abia State. He said that he would be willing to sit with Kalu on the same programme, Politics Today, to trade facts.
