Akwa Ibom State Governor, Godswill Akpabio has urged traditional rulers in the state to support security agencies to eradicate kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state.
The governor made the plea during the swearing in ceremony of the 27th chairman of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs as part of activities marking the 27th anniversary of the state in Uyo, the state capital.
The governor used the occasion to persuade traditional rulers in the state to use their offices to give direction to the youths, especially as they prepare for next year’s general elections.
He stressed the need to work towards consolidating the gains of the popular uncommon transformation policy of his administration.
While urging the new chairman of Akwa Ibom State Council of Chiefs, HRM Edidem Edem Silas Akpan, Akpabio assured that his administration remains committed to the welfare of the royal fathers.
HRM Edidem Edem Silas Akpan, who is also the Paramount Ruler of Uyo, pledged to work with the government to consolidate the gains recorded by the Akpabio administration in the last seven and a half years.
The governor also commissioned some projects as part of the anniversary.
Akwa Ibom state was created on September 23, 1987 from the former Cross River state by the then Military President, Ibrahim Babangida.
