McTominay ready to seize United chance

The United youth product made his first-team debut as a substitute against Arsenal in May and was part of Jose Mourinho's pre-season touring party to the United States.

McTominay was given a run-out in three of their friendlies and scored his first senior goal against Valerenga, although he has yet to make an appearance for Mourinho's side in the new campaign.

The 20-year-old midfielder could be given his chance on Wednesday when the Red Devils welcome Burton Albion to Old Trafford for an EFL Cup third-round clash, and he's relishing the opportunity to impress his manager.

"It's crazy when you think back all those years to when you're five years old going to the development centre, and then going all the way through the ranks," the youngster said.

"It honestly is a dream come true for me to be playing in the first team, and playing against teams like Real Madrid.

"But obviously you just want more and more of that and that is the main thing for my career: to be playing in big games, in competitive games and just do my best and hopefully see where it takes me."

McTominay has lauded Mourinho for continuing the club's famous tradition of bringing the youth players into the senior team, and is eager to learn all he can from the Portuguese coach.

"Things he does say stay between me and the manager but a lot of it is help and advice, really," the academy graduate  added.

"It's all like when we go out on the pitch, what I can do better, things that I can improve on and he is brilliant for that with young players.

"He's top - he's perfect for a manager and that's why he is manager of Man Utd. He's a really good guy."
