Obiano Commences Opening Of Sacamori Drainage

The Anambra state governor, Wilie Obiano, has commenced the opening up of the Sacamori drainage that has been blocked by both solid and liquid wastes in the Okpoko area of Ogbaru Local Government Area which has affected the health and environmental conditions of the residents.
The governor began the exercise during the Special Sensitization Campaign on Operation Clean Up Anambra in Onitsha and its environs, where he announced that the target of the exercise is to make Anambra one of the cleanest states in the country, adding that the people will be prosperous in health with a clean and safe environment.
The governor arrived at the venue to perform the symbolic clearing of garbage and announced to the people that the aim of the exercise will be at least two hours every Saturday is to make Anambra one of the cleanest states in Nigeria.
The governor joined in cleaning Oguta Road, Onitsha, and from there he went to Okpoko, in Ogbaru Local Government Area where the decongestion of blocked Sacamori Drainage commenced.
Nkpor residents in Idemili North expressed joy at the governor’s initiative of clean and disease free environment.
Due to high concentration of markets in the area as well as its proximity to Onitsha, the population is exploding and garbage from homes is enormous.
A waste evacuation expert in the area says domestic waste should be the first to be addressed.
