After 52 long years, a definite ceasefire has finally come into effect in Colombia between the Main Leftist rebel group and the government.
This cease fire ends one of the world’s longest insurgencies.
The ceasefire which started at midnight comes after four years of peace talks in Cuba between the Farc (The Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) and the government.
The final agreement on ending the 52-year-old war will be signed next month.
Farc leader, Rodrigo Londono, gave the order to stop firing.
Meanwhile, Colombian President, Juan Santos signed a decree earlier to halt military operations against the Farc, also from midnight.
On Thursday August 25, both parties signed a peace accord to end more than five decades of conflict and to work together to address social exclusion, deliver justice to the victims of the conflict and build a stable and enduring peace.
