The Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has handed over the party secretariat to the Senator Makarfi-led caretaker committee to run the affairs of the party till a national convention is held to elect principal officers.
This comes as the party says that it is putting in place temporary structures that will run its affairs ahead of a national convention that will produce principal officers.
Mr Makarfi disclosed this to journalists in Abuja after a marathon meeting of the board of trustees, serving and former governors of the party and their serving National Assembly members.
The meeting was initially scheduled to be a reconciliatory meeting of contending members of the Makarfi-led caretaker committee and the embattled chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff but the party later confirmed that Mr Sheriff had travelled before the meeting started.
In spite of his absence at the meeting, the leadership of the party insist that they were on track to unite the party and are currently putting structures in place to pilot the affairs of the party.
Among those at the meeting were the BOT chair, Tom Ikimi and Professor Jerry Gana who is also a member of the Mantu-led concerned PDP stakeholders’ forum.
