FG To Confiscate Substandard Genetically Modified Foods

This is following the expiration of the six months moratorium for practitioners and importers of genetically modified organisms to harmonize their dealings with the federal government guidelines.

The Director General of the National Biosafety Management Agency, Mr Rufus Ebegba, told journalists at a press conference in Abuja that the agency will utilize liability clauses in the act that established it to enforce compliance to standard.

He gave an assurance of government’s determination to ensure the safety of all genetically modified organisms produced locally and imported.
