A third minister has resigned from Brazil’s interim President Michel Temer’s government after being linked to a corruption scandal.
The latest to stand down is Tourism Minister, Henrique Alves who has also been implicated in a major corruption scandal at the state oil company Petrobras.
In a letter to Temer and provided to journalists on Thursday, he said, “I don’t want to create embarrassments or any difficulties for the government,” explaining that he had resigned to focus on defending himself from the accusations.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court released testimony by an ex-executive implicating 20 politicians including President Temer but he denies the allegations.
In a national address on Thursday, the president dismissed the graft allegations as dishonest and reckless, and that his government would not be distracted from fiscal reforms aimed at reviving the economy.
“We will not tolerate affirmations of that nature.
“A foolish suggestion like that can confound the government’s work. But I want to affirm that nothing will hinder our desire, mission and aim of doing what the president must do right now,” he said.

Henrique Alves, a member of Mr Temer’s PMDB party, joins former Transparency Minister, Fabiano Silveira and former Planning Minister, Romero Juca, who both resigned over leaked phone recordings linked to the Petrobras scandal.
