Chad is expected to send a large contingent of troops to Cameroon to help fight Boko Haram insurgents who have threatened to stage a wide scale attack on the country.
The announcement, by Cameroonian authorities, came a day after Chad said it would “actively support” its neighbour against the militants.
However, no detail has been given about how many troops would be sent, or when.
On Tuesday, Cameroon said it had killed 143 Boko Haram militants who attacked one of its army bases at Kolofata near the Nigerian border, in a gun battle that lasted for five hours.
Chad’s offer to Cameroon comes as a twist to what is supposed to be a regional fight against the insurgents, following a multinational task force initiative (involving Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon and Chad ) which was set up few months ago in France.
Chad previously had some troops based in Baga, but withdrew them.
This was followed by an attack on the town which satellite images released by Amnesty International suggest is reportedly Boko Haram’s deadliest.
