The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed shock at reports of the latest attacks by Boko Haram insurgents on Maiduguri, Konduga and Monguno in Borno State.
The insurgents had early Sunday seized Monguno leading to the death of several residents. However, the military repelled the attacks on Maiduguri, the state capital, and Konduga.
The attacks also reportedly left over 40,000 more refugees who have now joined the ranks of the internally displaced.
Describing the attacks as “mindless”, Mr. Buhari, in a statement by the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation, expressed his condolences, support and prayers to the families of the victims as well as soldiers affected in the incident.
He however assured that the situation in the affected areas would not last forever.
“While I commiserate with the latest victims of this despicable orgy of violence of Borno State, I equally implore them to bear in mind that this situation won’t last forever,” Mr. Buhari said in a statement by the Director of Media and Publicity of his campaign, Garba Shehu.
“In spite of the incompetent handling of this insurgency by the Federal Government, solution is in sight with the APC set to dislodge the PDP administration that has ruinously led this great country for nearly 16 years.”
