Irate Nasarawa youth stone Governor Almakura’s convoy

The Nasarawa State Police command has confirmed the attack on Governor Umaru Tanko Almakura’s convoy in Mararaba Gurku area of Karu local government area of the state.
The police spokesperson in the state, Ugochukwu Theodore, confirmed the incident, saying the rear windscreen of the governor’s press crew bus was smashed by the protesting youths.
Mr. Theodore said the police was able to bring the situation under control and that no arrest has been made yet.
“The information at our disposal further reveals that the back wind screen of the governors press was damaged but no arrest has been made but investigation is going on”.
PREMIUM TIMES gathered that the youth ambushed the governor’s convoy on his way back from an installation ceremony in Gurku where he presented a staff of office to the Emir of Gurku, Jibrin Waziri, as second class chief.
Witnesses told PREMIUM TIMES that the youth pelted the convoy after the governor drove past and smashed the windscreen of the press crew and one other volkswagen Sharon Bus.
Ibrahim Saleh, a trader whose kiosk was close to the scene of the incident, said but for the timely intervention of the police the incident would have escalated as youths in the convoy threatened to burn down the entire village.
“The police immediately barricaded the entire area because the youths in the convoy came with petrol to burn the village”.
