Whooping Cough, Comfirmed in a Secondary School in Jos

Sixteen secondary school students have been isolated in Jos , following a suspected case of whooping cough.

Whooping cough (pertussis) is an infection of the respiratory system caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis (or B. pertussis). It's characterized by severe coughing spells, which can sometimes end in a "whooping" sound when the person breathes in.

For teachers and students at the COCIN Headquarters secondary school along Zaria Road in Jos, Some strange cough which became prolonged drew the attention of the school authorities to seek for answers

Parents, teachers and students at some point had to seek for divine intervention.


Plateau state Chief Epidemiologist who confirmed that the students had contacted whooping cough said all the confirmed cases have been isolated at the temporary site of the Jos University teaching hospital.


Parents whose children were under isolation were visibly shaken by the news of their wards contracting the disease
