Former Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP) in Anambra State, Daniel Ulasi, says the defection of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal was a “coup”on the part of All Progressives Congress (APC) members in the House

“Once there is a coup, there has to be a level of planning which Tambuwal had been doing.”
He said that the Speaker’s action was to show his former party (PDP) that he could move and by doing so “destructing the political structure of Nigeria, making a whole zone lose their position”.
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, the former Anambra PDP Chairman explained that while Hon. Tambuwal was announcing his defection into the APC, the Speaker was “economic with the truth while quoting the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and stating his interest”.
Mr Ulasi noted that Tambuwal did not reveal the part of the constitution that stated “If you do this, not just will you lose your office as a Speaker but will lose your seat as a member of the House of Reps”.
He further noted that the Tambuwal defection should have been followed immediately with a resignation by the Speaker, just like it is done in other countries.
Mr Ulasi questioned the use of democracy and its mandate, stating that the Speaker was misusing the mandate given to him.
Speaking on the withdrawal of the Speaker’s security aides by the Presidency, Mr. Ulasi said that it was due to the fact that he did not apply the section in the constitution where he is meant to resign after defection.

“The security forces are telling him that presently he is no more the Speaker or a member of the House of Reps,” he said.
