Chibok Girls’ Abduction Will Not Induce Good Governance – Child Advocate

Channels Tv
Gender and Child Advocate, Ify Ike, has questioned the motive behind the kidnap of the Chibok girls, stating that it is not going to induce good governance and leadership.

She stated that if the motive was because the perpetrators do not want the Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, on seat, “let his tenure be over, kidnapping the girls is not going change anything or pull him out.”
Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily, Ms. Ike also attributed the incident to the fast approaching 2015 general elections.
“We are approaching very critical times in the country, election is fast approaching, we already have problems and will have more problems if we don’t set our priorities straight.
“We need to reevaluate our priorities because right now we are confused, the President is doing his best but the girls should be returned, its not a means of negotiation or establishing authority or power.
“You destroy the children , you destroy the nation. If you are a good leader, add value to your immediate environment. Excellence of character is not identified by a person’s utterances but by action,” she stressed.
She also called on Nigerians to heal and build the nation and not make this an exclusive responsibility of the leaders, “The reason we have a lot of bad leaders is because we have bad citizens who are not patriotic, a patriotic citizen makes a competent leader.”
She also added her voice to that of many Nigerians and other nationals who have been appealing to the Boko Haram sect to release the abducted Chibok girls.
