The Super Eagles first choice shot-stopper was substituted in Wolves’ draw, but his gaffer has cooled talks about a long-term recovery Wolverhampton Wanderers interim coach, Rob Edwards has given a positive update on the fitness of Nigeria goalkeeper Carl Ikeme ahead of the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.

Edwards had the 29-year-old replaced at half time by Andy Lonergan during his team’s away draw at Blackburn Rovers due to a hip problem. And ahead of Derby County weekend’s visit to the Molineux Stadium, the Wolves manager has calmed all fears behind the goalkeeper’s status. Especially with the Nigeria national team’s crunch Russia 2018 qualifying tie against Algeria in the corner.

"We’re going to try and reduce the [Ikeme’s hip] inflammation,” Edwards told club website. “He’s touch and go and we’ll know more in a few days.” Alongside Dele Alampasu and Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Ikeme completes a trio of goalkeepers called up by Gernot Rohr for the tie in Uyo on November 12 and barring any injury he is set to go straight between the sticks.
