The Delta state police command has formally launched a new anti-crime outfit tagged Operation ‘Eagle Net’, aimed at complementing already existing outfits in the state, in the fight against every form of crime in the society.
Launching the outfit at the Officers Mess Okwe in Asaba the state capital, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaina Ibrahim, said it was part of the command’s untiring strategies to ensure that criminals are completely driven out of the state for the peace and safety of Deltans.
Assuring the public of a thorough dedication to its mandate, the Commander of Eagle Net, Dimka Usman, said he would ensure that no member of his team is involved in corruption while discharging their duties.
Earlier on, the command launched the state anti- corruption crusade, which was said to be in accordance with the directive of the Inspector General Of Police for every command to key into the Federal Government’s “Change Begins With Me” campaign, aimed at fighting corruption.
While some suspects were paraded for various crimes bordering on kidnapping, sea robbery, armed robbery, cultism and murder, the command pledged it’s unalloyed commitment towards an improved service delivery to Deltans.
One of spectacular cases was that of an alleged plan to kidnap one Mary Kurbu, aged 77 years, by her nephew known as Francis Kurbu and other members of the gang.
According to the police, the arrests were proactively done after a tip off.
They however advised all criminals to denounce crime as according to them, “the eye of the eagle can see from afar when in search of its prey”.
