For its second production, Ebony Life Films got one of Nigeria’s prominent female directors, Kemi Adetiba, to help bring ‘The Wedding Party’ to life.
Speaking of the production, Adetiba told Channels Television that the movie, which is her debut feature length film, brought a lot of anxiety.
“There was a lot of anxiety and nervousness, hence a lot of preparation.
Explaining the sequence of the pressure, she said: “we had to understand the script, the actors, learn to work with the actors, we had meetings with the EP – but I think the most important thing was “relaxing”, because I wanted to be sure I wasn’t transferring any anxiety into the film.
“I wanted it to be very relaxed and enjoyable,” she said.
The movie which stars a host of Nigerian celebrities, including RnB singer, Banky W, and leading actress, Adesua Etomi, screened officially on November 26, 2016, at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos.
Kemi Adetiba cut her teeth in the creative industry as she directed the music video for the then, hip hop world awards theme song, ‘A price to die for’, featuring Banky W, rappers M.I and Kel and El Dee the Don among others.
The warm accolades that followed the project, earned her numerous other jobs.
Five years down the line, Adetiba has taken her trade a notch higher and directed her debut feature length movie, another critically acclaimed project.
She also made history by joining other Nigerian films to screen at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 8, 2016.

Banky W, who took a lead role, said he had worked with Adetiba on past projects and was really proud of her on this one;
“being her first movie and receiving this much attention”.

Adetiba on the other hand expressed appreciation having worked with the stellar cast.
Another star actress, Ireti Doyle, described the film as a “pressure pot situation”, because “even though there was mainly one location, there was a lot going on at the same time, on a huge scale”
She equally praised the director for her efforts in the production and expressed optimism that the audience would enjoy the film.
