The House of Representatives has urged President Muhammadu Buhari and authorities of the Nigerian Army to confer the posthumous rank of Brigadier General on Lt. Col. Mohamed Abu Ali, who was killed in an attack by Boko Haram last week.
Following consideration of a motion presented as a matter of urgent public importance by Rep. Abdussamad Dasuki who also urged that a national monument be named after the late officer.
The House also passed the resolution that the six slain soldiers who were killed alongside Brig. Gen. Ali, be posthumously promoted to the next rank.
The lawmakers also called for employment for the spouses of the late personnel, full educational scholarship for their children, and timely disbursement of all benefits accruable to their families.
Boko Haram Kills Five Soldiers
Lt-Col Abu-Ali was among the five soldiers killed when suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked a 119 Battalion Nigerian Army location at Mallam Fatori,northern Borno state.
According to the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Usman, the troops repelled the attack and killed 14 Boko Haram terrorists.
However, the five soldiers lost their lives while other soldiers sustained various degrees of injuries during the encounter.
Lt-Col Abu-Ali was the Commanding Officer of 272 Task Force Tank Battalion.
