Eleven games, one goal: The numbers behind Asisat Oshoala's worst season ever

Asisat Oshoala has been in rotten form in the Women's Super League this season, ending the campaign with just one goal. This has been a season to forget for Asisat Oshoala.

She endured a tough time on the pitch since joining Arsenal Ladies from Liverpool Ladies, and on Sunday at Meadow Park, her hopes of adding to her goal tally faded as she fired blanks in the Gunners’ 2-0 win against Doncaster Belles.

Oshoala has been out of sorts since the beginning of the campaign, and has now officially registered her worst season in the Women's Super League – with just one goal from 11 matches, her lowest tally so far in professional football.
One goal in one season in the Women's Super League, @AsisatOshoala wake up!
The Nigerian made a blistering start to life in the Premier League, scoring three goals in seven starts for Liverpool Ladies. Since then, however, it has all been downhill for Superzee.

She has also failed to score in all her games at Meadow Park – another unpleasant historical landmark. One is tempted to ask if she has lost her focus.  Also, she has struggled to establish herself in the Gunners' starting XI, making just six starts and being an unusued substitute on eight occasions.

Perhaps, Oshoala’s misfiring form could be responsible for Arsenal Ladies' third-placed finish in the WSL, having accrued just 29 points from 15 games – as they were unable to come close to invincible champions, Manchester City. Already under pressure, this setback will only further undermine the Nigeria Women’s national team’s attack as they prepare for the African Women’s Cup of Nations in Cameroon later this month, as Oshoala appears no longer to be the consistent goalthreat she once was.
