Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State has met with Ahmed Gumi, the General Secretary of Jama’atu Nasril Islam, and the appointed interim Imam of Sultan Bello Mosque, Abubakar Khalid. A Government House source told PREMIUM TIMES that the meeting was convened to reconcile the two factions, following their dispute over the Imamship of the Mosque.
The meeting is also attended by the Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris. Samuel Aruwan, the spokesperson to the governor, said the meeting was to ensure peace and harmony among all parties involved. The meeting came after a PREMIUM TIMES published interviews with the two contending persons.
“Mallam el-Rufai is currently meeting with both Dr Gumi, Dr Khalid and the Emir of Zazzau to find a lasting peace to the lingering imamship scandal at Sultan Bello,” the source said.
“I can’t give you details now, but we are hopeful that, at the end of the meeting, peace will return over the issues of leadership at the mosque.”
