The recent appointment of Isa Sanusi, former BBC journalist, to lead the communications for Amnesty International Nigeria is a pioneering and important step for the organisation said Amnesty Nigeria’s interim Director today (10 October).
Isa Sanusi was appointed as Media and Communications Manager for Amnesty International Nigeria in September to lead and oversee communications strategies for the organization’s research and campaigns, enhance its media presence in Nigeria, and to deepen its connection with the Nigerian public.
“We’re delighted that Isa has joined the Amnesty International Nigeria team,” said Makmid Kamara, Amnesty International Nigeria’s interim Director.
“Not only does Isa bring his excellent journalistic experience which is respected at both the national and international level, he also contributes his flair for connecting with Nigerians from all walks of life, in the country.”
Formerly a reporter for The Daily Trust, Mr Sanusi spent four years working in London at the BBC Hausa Service before returning to work in Abuja in March 2016. Mr. Sanusi began his career at Yobe Radio as a producer and left as a News Editor. Mr. Sanusi’s role will include serving as a spokesperson for the organization and providing strategic communications direction for Amnesty International Nigeria. He will also interface closely with the organization’s International Secretariat and regional offices.
“We’re confident that Isa’s direction of communications will enhance our ability to reach out to and connect with millions more Nigerians in and outside the country,” said Makmid Kamara.
