Uyo Residents Embrace State’s Environmental Sanitation Directive

Residents of Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital came out in large numbers on Saturday morning to clean their environments.
This was in response to the state government’s directive that the last Saturday of every month is observed as environmental sanitation day across the state.

Residents who spoke to Channels Television in Uyo said they were happy to take part in the exercise.
An official of Environmental Health Initiative of Nigeria, a non-governmental organization also commended the resident for their large turnout.
An aid to Governor Udom Emmanuel, Mr Emmanuel Nicholas described the exercise as a success and encouraged resident to remain consistent as cleanliness would help to keep the state free of diseases.
Governor Udom Emmanuel resurrected the environmental sanitation exercise in February, 2016.
