The Citizens United for Peace and Stability, CUPS, organisers of the #OccupyNASS movement, has promised to make public details of funds contributed by Nigerians for its recent protest at the National Assembly, and how the monies were spent.
Idris Ahmed, the president and founder of CUPS, made this known in an email to PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday.
The pledge followed a PREMIUM TIMES’ report on how the group received an average of ₦400,000 as donations for the three-day sit-in last week. The figure was provided by the group at a news conference.
Mr. Ahmed said the actual donations ranged from N150, 000 to N500, 000 daily.
He said the group received an aggregate of a little over N2.5 million and promised that full details of receipts and expenditure would be made public soon.
“We can categorically announce that the movement received a total sum of N2, 585,531 from patriotic Nigerians at home and in diaspora. Our chartered accountant will shortly publish a full account of the donations received and how the money is spent.”
“This donation is one of the most valuable that a Nigerian can ever give. It has made a significant impact on the success of the event.”
He assured the group will not let Nigerians down.
